Matteo Pirro (MD, PhD) is born in Paola (CS, Italy-IT) on 1973, October 18th, and lives in Perugia (PG, IT). He is Chief of the Unit of Internal Medicine at the University-Hospital S. Maria della Misericordia of Perugia (Department of Medicine). He is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Perugia. He is member of the National Executive Board of the Italian Society of Cardiovascular Prevention (SIPREC) and has been member of the National Executive Board of the Italian Society for the Study of Arteriosclerosis (SISA). He is member of the Board of Excellence of Novel Global Community Educational Foundation (NGCEF). He completed the Residency in Cardiology in 2001 (PG, IT), the PhD in Pathophysiology and Clinics of Arteriosclerosis in 2005 (PG, IT), and the post-doctoral activity at the Lipid Research Center in Quebec (CANADA). His research activities include mainly the study of early atherosclerotic vascular injury (e.g., endothelial dysfunction, arterial intimal medial thickness and stiffness, inflammation), with a special clinical interest for lipid metabolism disorders. He participated as principal investigator in several clinical trials. He has authored more than 300 original articles, reaching a H index of 41 and more than 5500 citations.
